Long Beach, CaliforniaSite Operator
About the role
We are seeking a reliable Site Operator to support electric vehicle charging equipment at customer sites in the Port of Long Beach area.
During this hypercare period, software improvements are being rolled out to address recently identified issues. This person will remain on-site near the equipment to monitor operations and respond if an issue occurs.
Most of the time, the equipment operates independently, so this role requires someone who can stay alert during long periods of monitoring, carefully follow instructions, communicate clearly, and respond calmly when needed. This is not a senior technician or repair role.
What You’ll Do
• Monitor automated EV charging equipment during plug-in and plug-out sequences in a live harbor environment.
• Step in when equipment experiences an issue, following established work instructions.
• Manually unplug vehicles if a connector becomes stuck, only after the charging session has stopped and proper procedures have been followed.
• Manually plug in or unplug vehicles if the automated equipment is down for an extended period to keep the fleet charging.
• Escalate unexpected equipment behavior to the on-call Service Engineer.
• Capture photos and videos of equipment events and share them with the remote support team for troubleshooting.
• Maintain a simple shift log documenting the time, vehicle, issue, and actions taken.
• Follow all OSHA requirements, terminal safety rules, and established safety procedures.
What You Will NOT Do
• Open electrical cabinets or repair, adjust, or service the charging equipment.
• Override safety functions.
• Enter the equipment's motion area while it is operating.
• Perform work outside established procedures or instructions.
Qualifications
• Valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential), or ability to obtain one before starting, is required.
• Experience in an industrial, port, logistics, warehouse, fleet, or similar environment.
• Comfortable working around trucks, yard tractors, and moving equipment.
• Strong safety-first mindset. OSHA 10 certification is a plus.
• Reliable, punctual, patient, and able to stay focused during long periods of monitoring.
• Clear written and verbal English communication skills.
• Comfortable taking and sharing photos/videos using a smartphone.
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Able to stand and walk for extended periods and safely handle charging connectors and cables.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to the terminal sites.
• Experience with EV charging, electrical equipment, or electric vehicle fleets is a plus.
Safety Requirements
Required PPE may include:
• High-visibility vest
• Safety-toe boots
• Hard hat
• Safety glasses
• Gloves as required by the terminal
Operators must follow all terminal traffic rules, designated walkways, equipment safety zones, and instructions from terminal personnel.
